Jan. 18, 2007: President Dr. Kefei Zhang anounces 2007 CPGPS New Executive Officers.
Dear all members,
I am very pleased to announce the attached list of members of the management team for 2007 in this inauguration message. My congratulations and welcome to all appointed/invited into the executive team.
In the past three weeks, I have been in extensive contact and consultation with many members, particularly with our senior members. This process experienced a slight delay due to the holiday break.I enjoyed the discussion and it has been my pleasure to interact with so many members who have offered many fantastic ideas and constructive comments about the direction and priorities of our society for the year ahead.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank our members, particularly the people nominated/appointed in the attached document for their support, consultation, enthusiasm and most importantly, for their valuable contribution.
I am lucky and very proud to be working with so many friends and colleagues and the attached document reflects the collective wisdom of these people. CPGPS is a great platform for us to meet, know and collaborate.
The management team endeavors to maximise the benefits, provide the best service, and protect the best interest of the group as a whole. You are very welcome to send your comments and suggestions to me or any member of the management team at any time.
There are a number of significant developments in the past three weeks, such as the following:
- the Strategic Planning Committee (chaired by Drs Chen, Wang and Dang) will start to form a team to work on our 5-year strategies. The committee will review our past five years work and provide a recommendation for our future reform. I am sure some of you will be invited.
- there is a plan to have our CPGPS Forum in China, Drs Shi and Zhang are currently working on a plan over various issues related to the forum (venue, date, scale, name of the forum, financial support). They will form a local organising committee soon.
- Dr Jinling Wang is working on the management of the Journal of GPS and he will provide an update on the issues of concern (eg the impact/profile of the journal, publication, the editorial team, SCI indexing etc). He will provide an update soon.
- Drs Morton and Xia from the award committee are making plans for the award related issues in 2007 and they will investigate both the potential award categories and the way to recognise outstanding contribution from our members. We are going to present a number of selected awards during our CPGPS forum. This group will also work in conjunction with both the CPGPS forum committee (chaired by Drs Shi and Zhang) and the Academic and Professional Development Committee (chaired by Drs Feng, Shi and Yuan).
- The membership committee (chaired by Drs Liu and Ge) will kick off "our annual membership campaign" soon and set up an on-line survey to see how we can improve our member service (with the help from Drs Zhong and Shi of the website development committee).
- Dr Gao (from CPGPS Headquarters) is working on the annual financial report of CPGPS and the summary will be published shortly.
The above is only a 'snapshot' of what is happening now and there are a number of other exciting initiatives organised by other committees/groups. I will provide updated information when it becomes available.
Again, I am very delighted to announce the management team today. Thank you so much for your support and I look forward to working with you all closely.
